Well, looks like we are down to just a smidge over 2 weeks until Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark play another rousing game of “Why are they still doing this?” in Time’s Square, which of course means that Resolution Season is once again just around the corner! If you are anything like the vast majority of American’s, chances are there are some big changes that you are hoping to make in the new year, and if you are like the vast majority of those American’s, you’ll make it about a month and a half before half of those plans get back-burnered to 2013 (assuming the Mayan’s had it wrong and time doesn’t end before that). For the rest of the good folks who DO make it all the way through 2012 in compliance with their resolutions, let me be the very first to say congratulations! You look fantastic in those smaller jeans! I love that book you finally wrote! Hey, wasn’t the planet supposed to blow up this year?
2012 will be a year of great change for my family and I as well. For the last few months, I have hinted that some big things were in the works, though I also mentioned that I couldn’t say exactly what. Time to let that cat out of the bag.
As of January, I will be going down to part time here at Ohio Displays Inc, the company that was built by, and has employed four generations of my family. During January (and possibly part of February) I will focus my attention on transferring my duties to other people at the company, working with clients to help transition their programs to the attention of their new Account Reps, and tying up any loose ends.
I am especially excited to announce the official launch of Connecting Concepts LLC in the meantime! CCL (as I will refer to it) is the product of nearly 3 years of planning and pivoting, and is (among many other things) the engine that has driven this very blog. While the company houses several sub-projects, products, and services, they are all built off a larger platform of using modern tools to solve day to day concerns in ways that are both cost effective, and approachable to any given end user. That’s my fancy way of saying that they are inexpensive and easy to use!
The first public offering (other than this very blog of course!) is ThatsSHOWbids.com . Some of you might already have noticed it linked to my facebook page, and some might have even taken a moment to wonder what exactly ThatsSHOWbids.com is. ThatsSHOWbids is an online bidding portal for all projects trade show/event related. The site is not live yet as it is currently being worked over by my Graphic Designer (he’s making it “pretty” right now), but the nuts and bolts are complete, working, and ready to go. At the risk of being a bit biased, it looks AWESOME, and I believe it can change the entire event industry for the better.
We have several other product launches lined up for 2012 as well, but I am staggering them so that I can properly focus on one at a time. While I can’t go too far into them until certain legal issues are put to bed, I can say that only the one project is related to the Trade Show industry. One is targeted towards a different end of the event industry, one is a broader consumer product, and one is a mobile technology application. It’s killing me to have to keep them to myself since I am so very excited about them, but…well…assuming the Earth doesn’t blow up in the next few months, I promise the wait will be well worth it.
The third big change for the year is going to be the most personal one though. Kendra and I are officially looking into real estate in central Florida. It’s no secret to our friends and family members that we love the Orlando area, but have always just considered it to be a favorite vacation destination. This year however we are changing all of that and are going to make the region our home as well. What can I say- warm weather, plenty of sun, civic pride…It’s a great area to raise a family for an entrepreneur. As I have mentioned before, it’s all about location independence!
So that’s it- that’s the big plan for 2012. For all of you who have made the journey with us so far, we appreciate and love you all. We aren’t leaving Cleveland, ODI, or our loved ones out of spite, but rather to move to a new chapter…to see what is out there when we stop saying ‘wouldn’t it be nice if…” and instead start saying “why not….?”
I, for one, can’t wait for 2012!
